The answer you need but probably don't want....
Happy Monday - Let’s settle an age old question I get asked almost daily.
Do you really need to code for a Cyber Security job?
It's a question that echoes through every beginner's mind: "Do I need to know how to code to make it in Cyber Security?"
I imagine like myself when I began, there are a sea of crossed fingers for a "no." But here's the twist: While It’s technically no. Why on Earth would you opt out?
When I dipped my toes into the Cyber Security, my coding exp was next to nothing —I could barely muster a for loop in Python and cobble together the simplest Bash script.
The Secret Weapon: Projects
Remember the 21st time you fired up YouTube, brimming with excitement to FINALLY learn Python, only to find your enthusiasm waning faster than ice cream in the sun? The game-changer for me wasn't just deciding to learn to code; it was shifting my approach to embrace projects. This pivot from passive learning to active building was what transformed me from a coding novice to someone who, while not claiming mastery, is on an endless trajectory of improvement. The cyber realm is teeming with projects that can turbocharge your learning and career alike—especially with a language as versatile as Python.
Beyond the Cyber Analyst…
So, you're eyeing that Junior Analyst spot, thinking you'll glide by without programming? Think again. In a sea of graduates vying for that entry-level position, the ability to automate tasks is your golden ticket. It's not about crafting the next viral app; it's the mundane magic of automation that can set you apart.
